WSKY-TV
launched
our first test signal on September 11, 2001 by a group of
North Carolina businessmen on a tower near Powells Point,
North Carolina. With full programming starting October 1st
of that year, WSKY-TV was on its way to becoming a fully
independent local television station serving northeastern
North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Over the years,
WSKY-TV has offered television classics, regional sports
and live locally produced shows. In 2003 WSKY-TV delivered
16 hours of live coverage of the 100th Anniversary of Flight,
the celebration of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s historic
successful experimental flights from Kill Devil Hills, North
Carolina.
In 2004
WSKY produced “Gimme the Mic”, a totally live locally produced
singing talent show that brought together local singing
talent from all over Tidewater and the Outer Banks. In later
years, after acquiring Hampton Roads first fully HD capable
high definition satellite truck, WSKY-TV embarked on the
most intensive local programming initiative ever. WSKY-TV
has produced telecasts of AAA Baseball's Norfolk Tides,
following their games from Harbor Park, and even many of
their away games from locations such as Toledo, Ohio, Pawtucket,
Rhode Island, Allentown, Pennsylvania and Durham, North
Carolina.
WSKY-TV
has covered both the men’s and women college basketball
teams of the Old Dominion University Monarchs, providing
coverage of both home and away games throughout the CAA.
WSKY has also provided live coverage of Norfolk Harborfest,
the Oceana Naval Air Show, the Langley Air Force Air Show,
The NATO Azalea Parade, 4th of July Celebrations Live from
Corolla and many other local events.
In addition,
WSKY-TV and our people lend a hand to promote and support
many local projects and worthy local causes such as the
United Way, March of Dimes, Special Olympics, CHKD and the
Mayflower Food Drive. In 2007 WSKY-TV launched our new high
definition signal and new 1000 foot tower near South Mills,
North Carolina, near the North Carolina, Virginia state
line. This expanded our coverage area tremendously and now
many more TV viewers can watch crystal clear HD programming
from WSKY-TV through their off-air antennas.
Who knows what to expect from 2010 and beyond! |
